Rams are the only team in NFL history to lose a game in this fashion

Teams were 93-0 with numbers like the ones the Rams put up in Thursday’s loss
The Los Angeles Rams were in complete control of Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, holding a 16-point lead with under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Then disaster struck, as the Seahawks returned a punt for a touchdown and found the end zone again less than 2 minutes later following a three-and-out.
It’s hard to believe the Rams gave the game – and possibly the No. 1 seed – away after dominating for about 50 minutes, but they couldn’t close things out the way they hoped. Their 38-37 loss to the Seahawks is the first of its kind in NFL history.
According to Stathead, the Rams are the first team ever to gain 500-plus yards and win the turnover margin by three and still lose the game. Previously, such teams were 93-0 in the regular season. Now they’re 93-1.
Furthermore, teams that put up at least 550 yards and committed zero turnovers were 175-22-2 all-time, with the Rams being just the 23rd team ever to lose that way. And teams that had at least 400 yards with zero giveaways, zero sacks taken and three takeaways were 79-0. The Rams are the first team to lose with those stats, too.
Los Angeles will try not to mull over this heartbreaking loss for too long before its next game on Dec. 29, but this one will be tough to get over. The Rams had Seattle on the ropes for most of the night and made very few mistakes. It’s just that those few mistakes came at inopportune times and cost them the game.
