Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau go Instagram official in Tokyo, sparking romance rumors as they share sushi bar moments.

Russell Brand is weighing in on ex-wife Katy Perry’s new romance.

The actor and all-around provocateur, 50, told the crowd at a Turning Point USA Event in Phoenix on Thursday that he was troubled by Perry’s rumored relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Brand, who has taken a conservative tilt in recent years, criticized Trudeau’s politics at the event – run by the organization founded by late right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

“Look, Katy Perry, I was married to her. I love her still, and I’m glad that her mom’s in the room to hear me say this, but look. I was OK with Orlando Bloom, but Justin Trudeau? Come on, man! Don’t put me in a category with that guy!” the British comedian quipped at the Dec. 18 event, per People. “That globalist stooge.”

Perry’s mother, Mary Hudson, along with her father, Keith Hudson, are traveling Christian ministers. USA TODAY has reached out to Perry’s rep for comment.

Perry was married to Brand from 2010 to 2012. The pop star, 41, later dated actor Orlando Bloom for nearly a decade, and the two share a daughter together. Following their split earlier this year, Perry was photographed with Trudeau, sparking romance rumors.

The seemingly incongruous pair went Instagram official in early December, when Perry took to the social media app to share a collection of photos and videos from her time in Tokyo, where she performed one of her last Lifetimes Tour concerts. The post included snaps from her travels with Trudeau, 53.

Though the two have fueled speculation in recent months with occasional public outings, neither has publicly commented on the status of their relationship.

Trudeau, who served as prime minister starting in 2015 and announced his resignation amid political pressure in January, and his wife Sophie Grégoire announced their separation in August 2023. They share three children from their 18-year marriage.

Brand, long a controversial figure, has fallen out of public grace amid reports of alleged rape and assaults and an ongoing criminal case in the U.K. In the years since the accusations became public, he has taken a religious turn, announcing plans last year to be baptized and using his social media to dip into conspiracy circles, spreading unfounded theories on topics ranging from 9/11 to the COVID vaccine.
