India vs South Africa LIVE SCORE UPDATES, 5th T20I: India set 232-run target for South Africa to win
It was yet another batter’s day out at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium during the fifth T20 match between India and South Africa, as, after being asked to bat first, India, with the help of a fiery start from their openers and late fireworks from their middle-order batters, put a massive total of 231 for five on the board. South Africa now need 232 runs to win in 20 overs if they wish to win the match and end the series in a 2-2 draw.
Earlier, South Africa won the toss and invited India to bat first. Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson got India off to a fiery start, adding 63 runs for the first wicket in just 5.4 overs, before Corbin Bosch got Abhishek Sharma (34) caught behind.
Sanju Samson (37) also failed to convert his start and lost his wicket to George Linde. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s lean patch then continued, as he lost his wicket to Corbin Bosch for just five. However, Tilak Verma, who came out to bat at number three, continued to attack from one end and brought up his seventh T20I fifty in just 30 balls.
Hardik Pandya then took one step forward and struck his seventh T20I half-century in just 15 balls, breaking the record for India’s second-fastest T20I fifty. He took his innings to 63 off just 25 balls and added 105 runs for the fifth wicket with Tilak before losing his wicket to Baartman.
In the end, Tilak Verma (73) and Shivam Dube (10 not out) powered India to 226 for five in 20 overs to finish the innings.
