Agreement in principle reached between Hydro-Québec and union of 5500 members

An agreement in principle has been reached between Hydro-Québec and the second largest union, the one representing specialists and professionals.

This local branch of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the FTQ, represents 5500 members within the Crown corporation.

The tentative agreement will be submitted to members at general meetings as soon as possible, CUPE said Friday.

The contents of the agreement have not been disclosed, the union keeping the details for its members first, as is usually the case in such circumstances.

These union members had begun to exert pressure by refusing to work overtime. The union stated that this pressure tactic “ceases immediately.”

The collective agreement had expired in December 2024.

The dispute concerned the use of subcontracting. The union wanted to keep the expertise in-house and protect the jobs of its members, while Hydro-Québec said it needed flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
