U’s boss expecting ‘tough test’ against Stanley

Neil Harris is expecting a tough encounter when his Cambridge United side play host to Accrington Stanley this evening.

After an up and down start to the campaign, Accrington have been one of League Two’s form teams during the last six rounds of matches. Indeed, during that timeframe, only Bromley, Walsall and Notts County – all of whom are in the top four – have bettered 17th-placed Stanley’s return of 11 points.

And while Cambridge are able to boast the second best home record in division, Harris is not anticipating a straightforward night under the Cledara Abbey Stadium lights.

Harris, who is set to have Shayne Lavery back available for selection after a hamstring injury, said: “Jon’s (Doolan, manager) done a really good job there. Always limited resources but a football club that’s got a great tradition, obviously.

“They’re always hard to beat, always organised, always diligent, always got size and power and pace in different areas and a goal threat.

“They’re just really hard to play against – they always have been, over the years, for a long, long time. They’re a football club that’s hard to play against so we know it’s going to be a stern test Friday evening.”

Cambridge have won just two of their six home fixtures against Accrington.
