The Orioles’ strong offseason continued on Friday.
Baltimore acquired starting pitcher Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret, outfielder Austin Overn and a Competitive Balance Round A pick, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported.
The Orioles were in need of starting pitching and the right-hander fills that void. A first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2017, Baz was the player to be named later in the 2018 trade that sent Chris Archer to Pittsburgh.
Baz underwent Tommy John surgery in 2022 and missed the entire 2023 season. He made a career-high 31 starts in 2025 and went 10-12 with a 4.87 ERA and 176 strikeouts.
Baltimore has been active this offseason, most notably signing Pete Alonso to a $155 million deal.
