Gardeners’ World fans in tears as Monty Don makes ‘last show’ announcement

BBC fans were devastated as Gardeners’ World and Monty Don announced their “last show”, which is “fast approaching”. Keen gardeners are running out of chances to see new episodes of the BBC programme before the end of 2025, and even Monty looked emotional as he posed with his dog Ned in his garden shed.

The official Gardeners’ World account announced: “Our LAST show of the year is fast approaching! Don’t miss Monty and Ned as they get into the festive spirit tonight at 8pm on BBC Two, tomorrow at 10am or if you’re in Wales 8:15pm!” accompanied by a Santa Claus emoji.

Fans rushed to the comments section, understandably devastated that the show will pause until 2026.

One penned: “Looking forward to watching. We wish all the GW team and their adorable furry companions a very healthy and restful Christmas. Thanks for another year of gardening wisdom.”

Someone else wrote: “Not me crying because no more GW until 2026!” as another joked: “Can’t wait, and then the TV goes back in the oak cabinet until GW returns in 2026. Make it soon if you can please!”

“Thank you for the winter specials, they really helped stave off the winter blues,” another fan posted.

Thankfully, fans only have to wait until January for some more Monty on their screens. He’s returning to BBC Two for a special series starting on Friday, January 16th – Monty Don’s Rhineland Gardens.

Monty shared a behind-the-scenes snap of him recording commentary for the series in the studio, armed with a microphone and laptop showing video footage.

Fans are already excited for the new show, with one gushing: “This is marvellous news.”

Another echoed: “Ooh looking forward to watching that!” as somebody else said: “Wonderful – something to look forward to. Happy Christmas to you!”
