Matthew Judon Reportedly Signs Bills Contract, Where Does He Fit on Depth Chart?

The Buffalo Bills intend to sign veteran edge-rusher Matthew Judon after hosting him for a visit on Friday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Buffalo will add Judon to its practice squad, per Rapoport.
The four-time Pro Bowler appeared in 13 games with the Miami Dolphins this season before he was released by the team on Wednesday.
Judon wasn’t able to make a large impact in Miami, as he recorded 19 tackles, three quarterback hits and one tackle for loss without tallying a sack during his 2025 campaign.
He was on the field for a mere 41 percent of the Dolphins’ defensive snaps, his lowest percentage since his rookie season in 2016 (via Pro Football Reference).
Still, signing the 33-year-old is a low-risk move for a Bills squad looking to close out the regular season on a high note. Buffalo currently sits at No. 6 in the AFC playoff picture with a 10-4 record, but the team is just one game behind the New England Patriots for the AFC East lead.
The Bills could use more depth on their front seven, especially with defensive tackle Jordan Phillips still sidelined due to an ankle injury.
Buffalo’s 31 percent pass-rush win rate as a team also ranks No. 28 in the NFL, via ESPN.
A change of scenery could help Judon look like his former self, as he amassed 72 sacks in 97 games prior to 2025. This included a 2022 season in which he finished with 15.5 sacks, ranking No. 4 among all players.
