PVR Inox Pictures confirmed the release through an Instagram post, writing, “Apocalypse just hit the world and if it struck India, here’s how it would look like. But the end of the world was just the beginning. Greenland 2: Migration releases in cinemas on January 9.”

The original Greenland was released in 2020 and went on to earn $52.3 million at the worldwide box office. The sequel is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling and Mitchell LaFortune. It is produced by Thunder Road Films, Anton, G-Base, and CineMachine, and is based on characters created by Sparling, who also co-wrote the script.

The story picks up after the events of the first film. The official synopsis reads, “In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the earth, GREENLAND 2: MIGRATION follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.”

Butler returns as John Garrity, while Baccarin reprises her role as Allison Garrity. Roman Griffin Davis joins the cast as their son, replacing Roger Dale Floyd from the first film. The supporting cast includes Amber Rose Revah, Gordon Alexander, Peter Polycarpou, William Abadie, and Tommie Earl Jenkins.

The project is backed by Lionsgate and STXfilms, with Anton presenting. Greenland 2: Migration is scheduled to release in Indian cinemas on January 9, 2026.
