New member of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s incoming administration has resigned over posts on X

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — A newly appointed key official in the upcoming Mamdani administration has resigned over resurfaced posts on the X social-media platform, just one day after her appointment was announced.

Catherine (Cat) Almonte Da Costa was set to serve as the director of the Office of Appointments in the administration of Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

On Thursday, the Anti-Defamation League resurfaced posts on X from Da Costa from years ago that the organization describes as antisemitic and demeaning to Jewish people.

Da Costa said in a statement that she apologized to Mamdani and that, because the matter is now a distraction, she has offered her resignation.

“Catherine expressed her deep remorse over her past statements and tendered her resignation, and I accepted,” Mamdani said.

The ADL wants to know if Mamdani knew about the posts before hiring Da Costa.

The administration says it was not aware of the posts.
