Kentucky basketball guard Jaland Lowe is hurt again.
UK’s top point guard left the early stages of the Wildcats’ CBS Sports Classic matchup against St. John’s with an apparent reoccurrence of the right shoulder injury that has plagued him all season long.
Lowe was defending a drive by St. John’s sophomore guard Joson Sanon just before the under-16 media timeout in the first half. Sanon appeared to bump into Lowe’s right shoulder, and the Kentucky junior guard immediately reacted and backpedaled away, grabbing his right shoulder.
A shooting foul was called on Lowe as Sanon made his way to the hoop. Lowe — after immediately grabbing the same right shoulder that he originally injured during UK’s Blue-White Game in October — then clutched that part of his body and immediately made his way back to the UK locker room. Kentucky’s senior athletic trainer for men’s basketball, Brandon Wells, accompanied Lowe back to the locker room.
Lowe hasn’t reappeared on the court since heading backstage. He was in the game for only seven seconds before suffering the injury.
Lowe sat out the early part of UK’s season with the right shoulder injury, before returning in time for Kentucky’s road loss to Louisville. Just two days after that defeat, Lowe re-injured the shoulder in a practice session. Saturday’s contest against St. John’s marked the fourth straight game Lowe appeared in for the Wildcats. Despite being projected as UK’s starting point guard this season, Lowe has come off the bench in all six games he’s played since transferring to Kentucky this offseason from Pittsburgh.
