During an interview on the podcast Where Everybody Knows Your Name, Mark Ruffalo revealed that while filming Now You See Me was going on, the cameras were everywhere. It was after filming was over for the day that he and Woody Harrelson had stepped out for a drink.
“Woody put his hand on her arm, and he said, ‘Oh, thank you. Thank you, darling.’ And this guy comes over, and he pushes her outta the way, and he shoves Woody. Bad. Because Woody’s first response is not ‘shove someone back,’ but ‘immediately punch them in the face.’ Which is the right thing to do, by the way. It’s the absolute right thing to do. But then a whole melee broke out in this bar. I was in the middle of it, and it was turning into a— it was getting to become a whole thing… And I grabbed [Woody].”
A whole bar fight had started out because of the way Harrelson had instinctively reacted. It was already crowded and to protect his colleague, Ruffalo grabbed the actor and dragged them both away.

Mark Ruffalo knew that while they could have always dove into the brawl, the safer option was to escape immediately. They had company present with them that could have been in real danger had Ruffalo not made the wise decision to leave.
“I was like, ‘This could be fun, but it also just could go so disastrously wrong because you and I might be able to handle ourselves, but the rest of the folks we were with… I don’t think so,” he said.
Ruffalo’s decision to step out saved a lot of lives that day. Had the two of them actually gotten involved in the fight, it could have backfired and caused some serious damage. Furthermore, neither could afford to get injured while filming was still ongoing.
