Hobbs, Lual not offered contracts for 2026

Bombers make further two list changes.
Essendon has today informed Ben Hobbs and Luamon Lual they won’t be offered contracts for 2026.
With the departure of the pair, the Bombers have now made eight list changes since the conclusion of the season.
Selected with pick No.13 in the 2021 National Draft, Hobbs made 65 senior appearances for the Dons over four seasons and slotted 21 goals in roles through the midfield and as a high half-forward.
Hobbs was a Rising Star nominee in his first season with the Club, earning plaudits for a breakout 22-disposal game against the Saints in 2022.
The 22-year-old featured in 18 games this season.
Lual joined the Dons with pick No.39 in the 2023 National Draft after a successful stint with South Warrnambool and the GWV Rebels.
Working towards a debut in his second year, Lual enjoyed a brilliant moment against Carlton in his first game when he slotted truly with his first kick in the AFL.
Continuing his work, Lual played out the remainder of the Bombers’ campaign at senior level to finish his tenure at the Club with 12 games under his belt.
General Manager – AFL Daniel McPherson thanked the duo for their service to the Dons.
“We wish to thank Ben and Luamon for their service to Essendon and their professionalism and dedication throughout their careers. It goes without saying that it’s always difficult with list spots at this time of year, but they leave the club with our very best wishes,” McPherson said.
“We have five selections at next month’s AFL Draft, and the list squeeze means some challenging choices had to be made. Both Ben and Luamon have handled the news with maturity and we applaud them for that.
“We wish each of the lads all the best for the future.”
Following the conclusion of the 2025 Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period, Essendon hold selections No. 5, 6, 21, 27, and 30.
