Is Reddit down? “Your Request Has Been Rate Limited” Error Reported

Reddit is experiencing a service disruption affecting hundreds of users, primarily in the United States, who are encountering a “your request has been rate limited” error message.

This error typically occurs when servers detect too many requests in a short period, but this time it appears linked to the ongoing widespread Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage impacting many internet platforms.

According to outage tracker Downdetector, Reddit’s issues peaked around 6:15 a.m. EDT on October 20, 2025, with most users facing problems on the mobile app. Reddit acknowledged the elevated error levels in a statement on X, confirming it was investigating the cause.

Users have taken to social media to report difficulties ranging from slow load times to failures in posting or accessing threads. Many expressed frustration, as the outage coincided with similar disruptions on platforms like Snapchat, Duolingo, Zoom, and Roblox — all affected by the AWS incident.

Since AWS powers much of Reddit’s infrastructure, the recovery timeline depends largely on AWS resolving its DNS and latency issues in the US-EAST-1 region. Until then, users may continue to experience errors and intermittent outages.

Reddit has not yet provided a detailed update on restoration but remains actively monitoring and working on the issue. Users are advised to keep an eye on official Reddit channels for further announcements as the situation evolves.
