Maple Leafs’ Hildeby swaps in for struggling Stolarz vs. Bruins

The backup netminder stepped in for the Toronto Maple Leafs midway through the second period after Stolarz had given up four goals on 19 shots against the Boston Bruins.

The Atlantic Division rivals were knotted up at 2-2 after the opening frame before Stolarz gave up two unanswered goals less than five minutes into the second period, prompting the substitution. It was the second time on Saturday that Stolarz’s struggles played a role in the Maple Leafs losing momentum, as the starting goalie gave up two goals 20 seconds apart in the first as the Bruins went up 2-1.

The 31-year-old entered the night with a 6-4-1 record through his 11 appearances for Toronto this season, posting a 3.11 GAA and .895 save percentage.

Hildeby holds a 3.33 GAA and .872 save percentage through six games prior to Sunday.

The Maple Leafs have struggled between the pipes all season, with the fourth-highest GAA (3.57) and fourth-lowest save percentage (.883) entering their matchup against the Bruins.
