Smriti Mandhana & Pratika Rawal SMASH MULTIPLE Partnership Records vs New Zealand
The duo stitched up a crucial 212-run partnership for India in their clash against New Zealand
New day, same old story as Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal continued to elevate the batting standards as a pair in Women’s ODIs with a 212-run stand against New Zealand, on October 23 (Thursday). While the pair certainly got off to the slowest start possible but the key to their success was not losing a wicket in the powerplay.
After scoring just 50 runs in the first ten overs, the pair started accelerating crazily, smashing 65 runs over the next 60 deliveries. But it was in the third phase of the innings where the two really had a go at the New Zealand bowlers, taking 73 runs in the phase, putting the bowlers under a lot of pressure.
In the process, Smriti Mandhana also smashed her fifth century of the year, striking at 114.75, with a 95-ball 109. The pair didn’t disappoint either, as the two smashed 212 runs for the first-wicket stand, the highest for any wicket for Women in Blue in the World Cup.
The duo also became only the second batting pair and the third batting pair (across World Cup editions) to have multiple 150+run stands. If that wasn’t enough, it was their fifth 100+ run partnership in the year, the joint-most for any batting pair in a calendar year.
