REM line to Deux-Montagnes opens Nov. 17

Starting Monday, Nov. 17, Réseau express métropolitain (REM) trains will run between downtown Montreal and Deux-Montagnes, on the North Shore.
The opening of this branch, eagerly awaited by public transit users, will add 14 stations to the REM network. Currently, five stations are in service between Montreal and Brossard, on the South Shore.
The new line will include three connections to the Montreal metro. Some bus routes will also be revised and will connect to the REM.
Starting Nov. 17, service will begin around 5:30 a.m. from Brossard and Deux-Montagnes.
In the evening, trains will not go further than Côte-de-Liesse station, as tests will have to continue in preparation for the commissioning of the Anse-à-l’Orme branch, in the west of the island of Montreal, next spring.
The opening of the Deux-Montagnes branch has been postponed several times, particularly due to the complexity of the work in the Mount Royal tunnel.
The REM network is expected to eventually have 26 stations and extend over 67 km. A link to Montreal-Trudeau Airport is still expected to be completed in 2027.
The project is estimated to cost $9.4 billion, $2.4 billion more than the initial cost forecast in 2018.
