Actor Larry Lamb has said that his age is beginning to affect his career as he discussed the challenges of managing back-to-back early morning shoots.

The 78-year-old Gavin and Stacey actor, who divides his time between Britain and France, revealed what his typical Saturday looks like.

Speaking frankly to the Telegraph about his weekend routine, he explained how he enjoys his midday meal before taking an afternoon nap.

Highlighting how crucial rest has become for him, Larry continued: “It’s not unusual for me to spend all day reading. I also do a lot of writing to fill my time.

“As I get older, the problem with acting is it takes so much energy. If I do three days where I have to work at 5am, I’m done, so the amount I can sign up to is reduced.”

Regarding the beloved programme, he stated: “There’s no way there’ll be more Gavin and Stacey. James [Corden] and Ruth [Jones] told that beautiful story, and they’re on with their lives.”

Larry also shared insights about his romantic situation, describing himself as contentedly unattached and highlighting his appreciation for his offspring.

Reflecting further, he remarked: “I’m definitely a happily single man these days. I’m just an old bachelor boy. It’s too late for the ladies, those days are happily over.”

Larry has been married three times and has four children with his partners, including his son George who has followed in his father’s footsteps into showbusiness to become a successful presenter.

Last year, Larry discussed his relationship with love in an interview with the Times, reflecting on the impact of his mother leaving the family home when he was just nine years old, which left him and his younger brother Wes alone.

In conversation with the publication about his relationship with love and his drive to find it, he confessed: “I was desperate to be in love, but when you go deep into it I was obviously trying to replace my mother.

“Going through that abandonment was such a profound loss, there was always an element of making sure that could never happen again. And how do you do that? You back off; you have a hand in the relationship failing in some way.”

Larry further admitted that he envisioned himself being alone for the rest of his life, preceding his optimistic comments about his situation this year.

Speaking cheerfully about the matter, he said: “After all the things with all these amazing women, I’m much happier having my own life and not sharing it with someone I’m almost certainly going to disappoint.

“I have to face the fact it hasn’t worked because I don’t let it work, so I finish up walking away. So I walked away and… it’s lovely.”
