Healthscope offloads troubled hospital as lenders pressure landlords

Healthscope’s lenders have asked the hospital operator’s receivers to consider cutting off rental payments to its two big landlords unless they agree to rent reductions on the 23 hospitals they own, while the NSW government has announced a deal to take control of Healthscope’s troubled Northern Beaches Hospital.

A group of lenders which account for a majority of Healthscope’s $1.6 billion in debt has approached McGrathNicol with the proposal, according to sources familiar with the situation but not authorised to speak publicly, as a sale process for the operator enters its final stages.
