Cox Plate 2025: Field and barrier draw

The field has been declared and barriers drawn for the 105th running of $6 million Group 1 WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Known as the weight-for-age championship of Australasia, the Cox Plate is run over 2040m.

Saturday’s race will be the final time the race is run at the Moonee Ponds racecourse before it’s redevelopment with he race moving to Flemington in 2026 before it returns to Moonee Valley 12 months later.

This year a field of nine this year will face the starter with the field made up of four seven-year-old geldings, a six-year-old entire, eight-year-old mare, two four-year-old mares and a three-year-old colt.

This year all nine runners are Group 1 winners including last year’s Cox Plate victor Via Sistina.

At Tuesday’s morning’s Breakfast with the Best trackwork session, top trainer Mick Price revealed his runner Globe is under an injury cloud.

Price said a final decision would be made on Saturday morning if the Underwood Stakes winner would run.

Via Sistina was the favourite at $2 prior to the barrier draw, ahead of Antino ($3.50), Aeliana ($6), Treasurethe Moment ($8) and Globe ($11).
