Diwali 2025: Five Days of Deepawali Celebration
Day 1: Dhanteras
Diwali festivities begin with Dhanteras. Devotees pray for wealth and success while worshiping Lord Kuber and Goddess Lakshmi on this day. Additionally, people purchase new goods like jewelry, bars, and gold coins. On October 18, it will be celebrated.
Day 2: Naraka Chaturdashi & Choti Diwali
The day before Diwali, people celebrate Naraka Chaturdashi, also known as Choti Diwali or Kali Chaudas. It symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and commemorates Lord Krishna’s victory over the demon Narakasura. Rituals provide spiritual cleansing, and homes are lighted. The date is October 20.
Day 3: Diwali
The triumph of good over evil is symbolized by the return of Lord Rama, Mata Sita, and Lakshman to Ayodhya, which is celebrated on Diwali. Lights, rangoli, and earthen lamps (diyas) are used to decorate homes. In the evening, devotees perform the Lakshmi and Ganesh Puja. This year, October 20 is also Diwali.Govardhan Puja honors Govardhan Parvat and is celebrated the day following Diwali. Legend has it that Lord Krishna raised the mountain to shield the Mathuran people from Lord Indra’s fury. It falls on October 22, one day after Diwali.
Day 5: Bhai Dooj
Bhai Dooj, also known as Bhau Beej or Bhaiya Dooj, is the last day of Diwali and honors the relationship between siblings. The date is October 23.
