The Montreal Canadiens couldn’t hold their 2-0 lead against the New York Rangers Saturday, falling 4-3 at the Bell Centre in a disappointing game.

“I’m gonna take most of the blame. I have to be better…”

However, beyond the negative result and Monty’s poor performance, a certain Joe Veleno clearly made a strong impression.

TVA Sports journalist Anthony Martineau was categorical after the game:

“I never want to see Veleno in the stands again.”

I truly believe this sums up Veleno’s evening well.

In response to a user who found his comment a bit exaggerated because it was simply “his first game,” he replied:

“His camp was exactly like that.”

Then, to another observer who asked where such a reaction came from, he clarified:

“It comes from everything he has shown since his arrival here. From his 5-on-5 effectiveness and everything he brings at even strength, notably mobility and repeatedly won battles.”

And even though the Canadiens collapsed in the third period (sorry for twisting the knife), Veleno seemed solid and confident throughout the game.

I really think Martineau is right. Veleno doesn’t make noise, but he does everything well.

On a team looking for stability, this kind of player is valuable.

Hopefully, the Canadiens can bounce back soon.
