Springer’s three-run blast leads Blue Jays to World Series in dramatic Game 7 victory

George Springer came up clutch when it mattered most, hitting a three-run homer in the seventh inning to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series with a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the ALCS on Monday.

The Blue Jays captured the third American League pennant in franchise history and will now advance to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series, which will begin on Friday in Toronto.

The Blue Jays overturned a 2-0 series deficit, after dropping the first two games to the Mariners at home.

They went on the road and won two of three games in Seattle, before returning home to capture Games six and seven to advance to the World Series.

Springer went deep off Mariners reliever Eduard Bazardo with the Jays trailing 3-1 in the seventh inning to power them into the lead.

Daulton Varsho got the Jays on the board with an RBI single in the first inning.

Shane Bieber started Game 7 for the Blue Jays and threw 3.2 innings, surrendering two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

The Blue Jays return to the Fall Classic for the first time since they captured back-to-back titles in 1992 and 1993.

Joe Carter hit a three-run walk-off homer as the Jays captured the 1993 World Series in six games over the Philadelphia Phillies to become two-time champions.

Carter also recorded the last out at first base in 1992 as the Jays won their franchise-first title over the Atlanta Braves.
