Jimmy Butler Opens Up About Playing For Golden State Warriors: ‘Ain’t No Hidden Agendas’

During an interview with Ann Killion of The San Francisco Chronicle, NBA star Jimmy Butler opened up about playing for the Golden State Warriors.

Butler, who has been traded by every NBA team he’s been on, said he’s “lucky to be part of this phenomenal organization.”

The Warriors have been to the NBA Finals six times in the Stephen Curry–Draymond Green-Steve Kerr era. They are 4-2.

“I’m lucky to be part of this phenomenal organization,” Jimmy Butler said. “Everywhere starts off great, but then you know someone has to be the bad guy, and it gets to be me. I’m always the one doing something unbearable all of a sudden. … But that’s okay. I get to play in this wonderful league, with amazing teammates.

“But being here, they’ve only got one goal. To keep hanging those things up on the wall. Ain’t no hidden agendas.”

The Warriors acquired Butler from the Miami Heat last season. Butler, who requested a trade from Miami, signed a two-year, $110 million extension with Golden State.

One of the top two-way players in the NBA, Butler has played for the Chicago Bulls, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Heat and Warriors. He guided Miami to the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023.

The Heat lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2020 NBA Finals and fell to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals.

“I haven’t won one of those,” Butler said. “But you can’t call me a loser. I’ve won everywhere that I’ve been. I could care less about how many points I score, how many shots I get. Just tell me what you need me to do to help us win.”

The Warriors lost to the Timberwolves in the second round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. Curry got injured in Game 1 and missed the rest of the series.

Butler, 36, enters this season with career averages of 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in the NBA.
