Houston’s two wins this season have come in their last two matches – against Tennessee, perhaps the worst team in the NFL, and Baltimore, who have been beset by injuries. Houston quarterback CJ Stroud and his teammates took advantage, posting wide-margin victories.
Stroud threw four touchdowns, and their offence exploded for 417 total yards and 27 first downs in Baltimore, completely decimating what was left of the hosts’ defence.
A defence that ranks first in opponent points per game should be healthier after two weeks of rest, and first-year offensive coordinator Nick Caley has had a fortnight to scheme a way past a strong Seattle defence.
However, Seattle still look the bet on the handicap, in the hope that they can repeat last week’s impressive performance in Jacksonville.
After a defeat in a tight Lumen Field tussle with Tampa Bay, the Seahawks responded by holding the upstart Jaguars to just 273 total yards and 17 first downs to secure a 20-12 road win that moved them to 4-2 for the season.
They limited Jacksonville to just four yards per play and, perhaps most impressively, sacked Jags QB Trevor Lawrence seven times. Prior to Week Six, he was one of the best-protected quarterbacks in the league.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold went into Week Seven ranked in the top three in most passing categories and leads a potent air attack that ranks first in yards per pass with a figure of 9.5.
Seattle’s run game needs to improve, and Houston have their tails up, but they haven’t shown enough against good teams to suggest they’re up to winning on the road against such capable rivals.
