Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for its upcoming animatronic horror sequel, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2. The trailer gives audiences a glimpse of some of the film’s animatronics, including the infamous Springtrap.

Set one year after the events of the first film, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 sees Josh Hutcherson return as protagonist Mike Schmidt, with Elizabeth Lail reprising her role as police officer (and daughter of antagonist William Afton) Vanessa Shelly. Vanessa and Mike have done their best to shield Mike’s younger sister Abby (Piper Rubio) from the truth of what really happened at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. But eventually, Abby disappears (likely hoping to reconnect with her animatronic friends), forcing Mike and Vanessa to return to the cursed pizzeria, where they must face their own inner demons to save Abby.

Although Vanessa’s father (serial killer William Afton, played by Matthew Lillard) was left for dead inside an animatronic rabbit suit at the end of the first film, he used his final breath to declare he’d get revenge on Mike and Vanessa. That seems to be exactly what’s happening here, as the trailer includes a few brief shots of Springtrap wielding a knife and shambling down a dark hallway. Other popular characters from the game franchise can also be seen in the trailer, including Balloon Boy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, and of course, the titular Freddy Fazbear himself.

The first Five Nights at Freddy’s film, which was released in 2023, enjoyed an $80 million opening weekend, and grossed over $300 million worldwide.

Written by Five Nights at Freddy’s game developer Scott Cawthon and directed by Emma Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 arrives in theaters Dec. 5.
