Leylah Fernandez and Filipino tennis player Alexandra Eala were recently seen bonding during the players’ party at the 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Open. The WTA 250 hard court tournament is scheduled to take place from October 27 to November 2, 2025, at Victoria Park in Hong Kong.
Fernandez was born in Montreal, Canada, and has Ecuadorian heritage from her father, Jorge. She is also of Filipino heritage, like Eala, from her mother, Irene’s side.

Leading up to the 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Open, Fernandez competed at the 2025 Toray Pan Pacific Open. She won her first-round match against qualifier Maria Sakkari with a score of 7-6(5), 6-4, but lost in the second round to second seed Elena Rybakina, with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3.
On the other hand, Eala participated in the 2025 Guangzhou Open before heading to the WTA 250 tournament in Hong Kong. She was seeded fourth and was defeated in the first round by qualifier Claire Liu, with a 6-2, 4-6, 4-6 score.
Before starting their campaigns at the Hong Kong Tennis Open, Fernandez, Eala, Maya Joint, and Victoria Mboko attended the players’ party. Mboko shared a couple of pictures from the event on social media.

Fernandez will only compete in the singles event at the 2025 Hong Kong Tennis Open, while Eala will participate in both the singles and doubles events. The Filipina has partnered with Chan Hao-ching for the doubles competition, and they are set to face the duo of Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round.

She defeated Anna Blinkova 6-1, 0-6, 6-2, and Kimberly Birrell 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(2) in the first two qualifying rounds, successfully advancing to the main draw. There, she lost to Lys in the first round with a score of 2-6, 1-6.
