Avalanche, Hurricanes to face off in Nordiques-Whalers throwback game

Both clubs will be wearing old-school jerseys — the Avalanche will suit up as the Quebec Nordiques, while the Hurricanes will don Hartford Whalers uniforms.
The Avalanche will pay tribute to to the team’s time spent north of the border by wearing the Nordiques jerseys over seven games this season.
It’s not the first time the Avalanche have worn Nordiques-inspired jerseys, as they also did in the 2021 season.
But this season’s jersey will feature the classic blue, red and white colour palette that is inspired by the France flag and symbolizes the importance of Quebec’s French-Canadian roots.
The Nordiques were first established in 1972-73 as part of the World Hockey Association. They joined the NHL as part of the NHL-WHA merger in 1978-79.
Over 16 seasons in Quebec, the team made it to the conference finals twice.
The Nordiques relocated to Colorado in 1995-96 and won the Stanley Cup in their inaugural season as the Avalanche.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have rocked Whalers throwbacks over the past several years.
The Whalers, another WHA team that joined in the NHL in the merger, relocated to Carolina and became the Hurricanes in 1997.
The Hurricanes did not say when or how many times they will wear the Hartford sweaters this season.
