Philanthropist and founder of the Greater Chernobyl Cause Fiona Corcoran has been announced as the Cork Person of the Month for October.
Ms Corcoran has been recognised for her work, spanning two decades, to transform the lives of those impacted by nuclear radiation and war.
The Greater Chernobyl Cause and Ms Corcoran’s efforts have resulted in the building and refurbishment of orphanages and hospices; the donation of vital domestic appliances and medical equipment, and provision of shelter for vulnerable street children.
Awards organiser Manus O’Callaghan said Ms Corcoran has been “a driving force” in Irish efforts to help the most vulnerable in the former Soviet Union countries.
“Her commitment to this cause is commendable, particularly regarding victims of the ongoing war in Ukraine who have been deprived of peace, homes, and security,” said Mr O’Callaghan.
Her name goes forward for consideration for the Cork Person of the Year title.
