These words were said by former football player Rauf Aliyev in an interview with Publika.az, sharing his thoughts on the Ágdam club’s game against “Athletic” today in the 3rd round of the Champions League. The former striker of the “Köhlən atlar” stated that he is one of those who believe in a sensation in this meeting:

“After the first 2 games, the team is in a good mood. Expectations are high. There’s no need to talk extensively about the Spanish clubs. They are contenders in every tournament they play. There are players in the “Athletic” squad who play for the Spanish national team. On one hand, when you think about it, they are a strong opponent. But many people have confidence that “Qarabağ” will return from the away match with a favorable result. I am one of those who think that way.”

Rauf Aliyev participated in both matches against “Athletic” 10 years ago in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League while playing for “Inter” (0:2, 0:0). He recalls those games as follows:

“At that time, the “Athletic” squad was also strong. Several were members of the Spanish national team. But we fought well against them. There is a big difference between the “Inter” of that time and the current “Qarabağ”. The Ágdam club has many more skilled and experienced players in its squad. That’s why I say that “Qarabağ” can return with a good result from the away match with “Athletic”.
