NEWPORT – Is Taylor Swift going to get married at The Breakers mansion?

The British tabloid Daily Mail seems to think that’s a real possibility. “The venue, many say, is the exclusive Breakers in Newport, a 70-room mansion completed in 1895 by Cornelius Vanderbilt II, one of the richest men in America at the time.”

So, what does The Breakers have to say about playing host to a possible Taylor Swift wedding?

“Taylor Swift is not getting married at The Breakers,” said Gary Ruff. “It’s just not happening.” Ruff is spokesman for the Preservation Society of Newport County, which owns The Breakers and several other of Newport’s famed Gilded Age mansions.

Why is he so adamant?

“We don’t hold weddings at The Breakers,” he said, adding that there probably hasn’t been a wedding at the property since it was owned by the Vanderbilts.

The Breakers is a highly sought-after tourist destination, a museum open for public tours 363 days a year, leaving no room in its schedule for weddings. (It’s closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.)

Ruff ruled out any of the other Preservation Society mansions as a Swift wedding venue.

Swift got engaged to boyfriend Travis Kelce, a professional football player for the Kansas City Chiefs, in August. No date has been announced, though the Internet is foaming with rumors that it will be June 13, 2026, at the Ocean House in Westerly, fueled by a companion rumor that an unnamed couple who had booked the hotel near Swift’s Watch Hill mansion for that date had been offered $500,000, plus the cost of their wedding and and extravagant honeymoon, to give up that date.

While the singer, often called the most famous woman in the world, has not publicly said whether her marriage to professional football player Travis Kelce will take place in Westerly, even the possibility has local officials contemplating what it would take to pull off such an event.

“I’m hearing the same thing everybody else is hearing,” said Westerly Town Manager Shawn Lacey. “There’s a possibility it could be in Watch Hill.”

The big question: How many guests would be invited to Taylor Swift’s wedding?

Town Manager Lacey pondered: “Would we have to shut down the whole village of Watch Hill?” That’s among the dozens of questions he would face if Swift decides to tie the knot here.

Chief among them is how big the guest list would be, a question whose answer would affect far more people than just the superstar’s caterer.

If she has a handful of close family and friends, Watch Hill could handle the event without much trouble, Lacey said. “If she has 300 people, it will turn into a problem – a problem we’ll deal with.”

A guest list of 300 people would include a bevy of A-list celebrities. “There would probably be more security concerns in the guest list than in her,” said Lacey.

With a nod to Olivia Culpo’s wedding a year ago, Lacey said, “This is a much higher magnitude.” He compared it to the security challenge of a royal wedding. “We would have to rely on outside agencies,” he said, listing the state police, the FBI, Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Coast Guard.
