Andy Cole admits there’s something he wants Ruben Amorim to change at Man Utd now

Ruben Amorim will be hoping that a corner has finally been turned at Manchester United, but Andy Cole wants one change to guarantee things get better.

After defeating Liverpool at Anfield, there is a general sense around Manchester United that the storm Ruben Amorim predicted last December has passed, and that good times are around the corner.

Amorim became the first manager to win at both Anfield and the Etihad for the past five years, with an excellent performance earning back-to-back wins for the first time under the Portuguese head coach.

During the win, Amorim made numerous successful tweaks to his United team, changing personnel and demands to claim three points.

But he has now been advised against this.

Andy Cole wants Ruben Amorim to make one change at Manchester United

It is easy to forget that Amorim is a very young manager, and so his lack of experience will sometimes shine through.

However, against Liverpool, Amorim’s decision-making was key in securing victory, and also his usage of the squad, both through rotation and substitutions.

But going forward, Andy Cole has now requested that Amorim settle on a team and go with it consistently, arguing it will build momentum, during an appearance on The Sports Agent podcast.

“Every starting 11 is different from the one before. So if he wants to get some momentum, you kind of want him to have a little bit more consistency in selection, don’t you?” Cole was asked by the host on the podcast.

“You would hope so, yeah. It’s a little bit like Ranieri used to get called the tinker man,” Cole explained.

“If you look at obviously those stats there, you turn around and say to yourself, well, the only way you’re going to get continuity is if you continue to put the same team, they build confidence, they win more football matches, then you move forward from there.

“But the manager makes decisions based on what he said previously, based on how people train, and all those kinds of things. So I’m just hoping now they can move forward.”

“I’m really hoping that they will be able to move forward and gain confidence after beating Liverpool at Anfield, knowing that no one gave them a chance.”

Despite Cole’s stance, Amorim is making rotation a strength for United, and the back-to-back wins have come with the head coach adapting the team to the opponent.

Changes Manchester United should make to face Brighton

While the idea of an unchanged line-up is ideal, as it would show Amorim knows his best team. But against Brighton, we expect changes once again.

Leny Yoro should be starting ahead of Harry Maguire, despite the Englishman’s heroics, as playing at home, Yoro allows United to play a much higher line and try to dictate proceedings, also with a mind to keeping Maguire’s workload light.

Going forward, we’d stay largely the same, but Benjamin Sesko should be back in the starting line-up, replacing Mason Mount, with Matheus Cunha dropping back into the 10.

Minor tweaks for United for a game which should see a lot more control against a team fans will be desperate to defeat after years of Brighton dominance in the fixture.
