Róisín Murphy Said She’d “Bow Out” of Trans Discourse — Unfortunately, She’s at It Again

“One possibility is changes in acceptance; as acceptance increased, more young adults identified as transgender and/or were willing to identify as transgender in a survey,” Twenge told Fox News. “When acceptance declined, identifying as transgender (or at least identifying as transgender on a survey) declined.”

This data purports to show a similar trend as a controversial study put forth earlier this month by Eric Kaufman, a professor and founding director of the University of Buckingham’s Center for Heterodox Social Science. According to Kaufman’s data, LGBTQ+ identities such as bisexual, trans and nonbinary have fallen in the past few years. In the report, he wrote that these identities were “falling out of fashion.”

Shortly after Kaufman’s numbers were released, data scientists characterized the report as wildly inaccurate, with Jacob Eliason calling the study “dead on arrival.”

After Murphy posted the graph, she responded to several people who pointed out the many reasons that such a downturn might take hold.

“Yeah people are less likely to be openly trans at times when hate speech at trans people is encouraged by people in power, what is your fucking point,” one person wrote. Murphy responded, “I think you mean when dissenting voices are heard.”

Murphy’s post also garnered a response from DJ The Blessed Madonna, who called out Murphy for continually posting about trans people. “Go fuck yourself, Róisín,” they said. “You had me fooled once. You were never a queer icon. You’re another dusty TERF that knows how to count queer money and serve a look.”
