Atlético Ottawa, Ottawa Rapid both set to make playoff push

The Canadian Premier League and Northern Super League both wrapped up their regular seasons over the weekend, and both of Ottawa’s clubs now have their eyes set on big playoff runs.
Here’s a glimpse at what lies ahead.
Atlético Ottawa
Atlético Ottawa’s beat the Halifax Wanderers 1-0 in their final game of the CPL season Saturday, finishing their campaign in second place.
They’ll now face the regular season winners, Forge FC Hamilton, in the championship semifinal next Sunday.
If Ottawa wins that, they’ll host the CPL final on Nov. 9.
If they lose, they’re not out of it: they can still make the final by winning the contender semifinal on Nov. 1.
Striker Sam Salter won the league’s Golden Boot award for top scorer with 19 goals, breaking the previous league record of 14 held by former Halifax Wanderer João Morelli.
Salter’s the first player in Atlético Ottawa’s history to win the award.
The achievement comes as Salter’s time in Ottawa is nearing an end, as the 25-year-old from Laval, Que., has signed a pre-contract with Swedish first-tier club Göteborgs Atlet- och Idrottssällskap (GAIS) and will be playing there next year.

Ottawa Rapid
In the Northern Super League, Ottawa Rapid FC will be headed into the playoffs as the second seed.
Rapid FC won their final regular season game against the Halifax Tides on Wednesday, but they had to wait until this weekend to find out where they’d finish in the NSL table.
With AFC Toronto beating the Montreal Roses on Sunday, Ottawa locked up the second overall spot.
It also means they’ll take on third-place Vancouver Rise FC in a home-and-away semifinal series starting Nov. 4 in Burnaby, B.C. and ending Nov. 8 in Ottawa.
A win there means Rapid FC will book their spot in the inaugural NSL final on Nov. 15.
Rapid forward DB Pridham earned the first NSL Golden Boot award with 18 goals.
