Cork Airport tunes up for 62,000 passengers over the bank-holiday jazz festival

Over the coming days, festival goers are expected to land in the airport to attend the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival.
An airport spokesperson said the busiest day of the bank holiday weekend will be Friday and overall passenger traffic is set to be 12pc higher than the same period last year.
The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival is now in its 47th year and Cork Airport is an official festival partner to the music event, they said.

The airport spokesperson said that passengers will be greeted in the terminal by live performances as part of the festival’s ‘Big Fringe’, with music from the Chaupiques Brass Band, TBL8 Brass Band and local ensemble Rebel Brass.
The bank holiday weekend also marks the start of the winter schedule at Cork Airport, which lasts until next March.In that period, more than 1.4 million tickets will go on sale to destinations across the UK, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Poland and the Netherlands.
Speaking ahead of a busy weekend, Cork Airport managing director Niall MacCarthy said they always look forward to the October Bank Holiday.
“It’s a really special time of the year here in Cork, and no less in the airport where the craic and the music are carried into the terminal with live performances.
“About 62,000 passengers will get to enjoy the ease of traveling through Cork Airport this October Bank Holiday weekend,” he said.
In September, Cork Airport reported that it was on track to record its busiest ever year, with 3.4 million passengers predicted to use the gateway by the end of 2025.
Over the summer period, passenger numbers were up by 15pc compared with the same period last year.
A total of 1.1 million passengers flew to and from Cork Airport across the summer months of June, July and August.
In September, Kenny Jacobs – who still remains CEO of airport operator DAA – spoke about the airport.
“Cork Airport is on the cusp of one of the most exciting periods in its history, from a capital development and infrastructure perspective, as works on the new mezzanine floor – which will be home to the airport’s new security screening area – are due to commence imminently.”
