Stephen Graham has called his Deliver Me From Nowhere co-star Jeremy Allen White “one of the finest actors” he’s shared a screen with.
The upcoming Bruce Springsteen biopic, which stars White as the legendary musician, is set for release on October 24th, 2025. Graham plays Springsteen’s father, Douglas Springsteen, in the movie, who had a complex relationship with his son.
Rather than being a traditional biopic that attempts to cover a long stretch of an artist’s career, Deliver Me From Nowhere instead focuses on the specific chapter in Springsteen’s life when he recorded Nebraska in isolation while dealing with the challenges of being heralded as the voice of a generation.
Now, in a new interview with The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, White said of the pressure of playing Springsteen, “It’s incredibly overwhelming. And throughout the process of making the film, I was very, sort of like head down and closed off.”
The Bear star also praised Graham for his support, sharing, “I feel like before Stephen and I worked together, he was so lovely. He was like checking in on me all the time, and we didn’t really know each other very well yet. But I think he saw me just kind of like pacing about basecamp all the time, sort of staring at the ground. And when he asks if you’re well, he really means it!”
In response, Graham, who has worked with acting royalty including Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Al Pacino, repaid the compliment by stating, “See, the thing with Jeremy is our Alfie, he put me on to Jeremy with Shameless. I watched it, and that was the first time I ever saw him, and I thought he was phenomenal. I thought he was wonderful. So, to get to work with him, I’m not just saying it because he’s here, but I think he’s one of the finest actors I’ve ever worked with.”
Graham continued, “The beauty with Jeremy is his humility and his performance is absolutely beautiful. It’s so natural, it’s so minimalistic, and it’s so pure. And both the Jeremy’s together, that relationship between the two of them is fantastic. But for me, personally, he’s outstanding, this young man.”
Earlier this week, Far Out was in attendance at a special event held at Spotify’s Headquarters in London, which saw White discuss Deliver Me From Nowhere with Springsteen.
During the conversation, Springsteen heaped praise on Graham’s performance, telling those in attendance, “Stephen Graham really embodied the emotional complexity of my father. He was an alcoholic, bipolar, and quite mentally ill.”
The New Jersey icon also nonchalantly revealed why he agreed to the film being made, stating, “I figured, I’m 76 years old, I don’t really care what the fuck I do anymore.”
