HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Hundreds of people gathered by candlelight to mourn the loss of three Huntsville residents who died in a plane crash over the weekend.
Mark, Lainey, and Ellie Anderson were all killed when their plane crashed in rural Montana on Friday, after Mark radioed saying they were having engine trouble
The stands of Milton Frank Stadium were filled Wednesday night, not for football, but to mourn the loss of Huntsville High School senior Ellie Anderson, her father Mark Anderson, and her sister Lainey Anderson.

Ellie was a dancer, and her sister Lainey was a recent Auburn grad following in her father’s footsteps by becoming a certified flight instructor.
Hundreds gathered in prayer and song by candlelight, sharing tears.
Friends of Ellie, Mark, and Lainey took to the stage to share stories of the Andersons’ kindness and banded together to be there for Misty, the wife and mother of the three lost over the weekend.
Huntsville City School Board Vice President Ryan Renaud told me he knows the Andersons well.
“Mark, Lainey, and Ellie… they all loved fiercely. They didn’t just love their friends and family; they treated strangers and people they encountered throughout their lives as family. They helped people heal with empathy and grace,” said Renaud.
Renaud said he hoped Wednesday night would be a chance for the community to come together.
“They have had such a tremendous impact on not just the Huntsville community, their friend, their loved ones, but everyone they encountered along their journey on this earth, and we wanted to give this community an opportunity to come together not just to mourn but to celebrate their life in the wake of a tragedy.”
