FBI arrests former Charlotte Hornets player amid betting investigation, per report

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A former Charlotte Hornets player was arrested by the FBI on Thursday as part of a sports betting investigation, according to ESPN.
ESPN reported that Terry Rozier — who played in nearly 300 games for the Hornets — was taken into custody at a hotel in Orlando, just hours after Rozier and the Miami Heat lost their season opener to the Magic.
ESPN said Rozier’s arrest stemmed from an investigation into a March 23, 2023 game when he was still with Charlotte. Sportsbooks in multiple states allegedly flagged “suspicious” betting on Rozier props, which took the unders on his points, rebounds and assists.
During that game, Rozier played only 10 minutes before he left with an injury.
FBI Director Kash Patel is expected to hold a news conference Thursday at 10 a.m. EST regarding the investigation.
The 31-year-old guard spent about four and a half seasons with Charlotte, and ranks third in Hornets history in three-pointers made and sixth in points scored.
The Hornets traded Rozier to the Miami Heat in January 2024, where he has been ever since. Rozier did not play in Miami’s season opener on Wednesday night.
