India opener Pratika Rawal equalled the record for the fastest to 1,000 runs in Women’s ODIs, reaching the landmark against New Zealand in the ongoing Women’s World Cup.
Rawal, 25, has had a prolific start to her one-day career, having made her debut only in December last year. So far, she’s hit a century and seven fifties in 23 innings, with a best of 154 that came against Ireland in January.
Rawal becomes joint fastest to 1,000 Women’s ODI runs
Against New Zealand, she ticked off another milestone, crossing 1,000 runs in WODIs. At the Women’s World Cup so far, Rawal had gotten off to good starts, crossing 30 four times, but only managing one fifty.
She is now the joint-fastest to 1,000 women’s ODI runs, having equalled the record set by Lindsay Reeler from Australia in 1988. Both took 23 innings to reach the landmark. In fact, Rawal broke into an all-Australia top four, with Meg Lanning & Nicole Bolton (25), as well as Belinda Clark (27, joint with South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt) following them.
Among Indians, she broke Mithali Raj and Deepti Sharma’s joint record. Mithali reached the landmark in 2003, taking 29 matches to be joint-seventh with Charlotte Edwards, Sarah Taylor, Phoebe Litchfield and Deepti. Litchfield crossed the 1,000-run mark during the ongoing World Cup as well.
