The nearly 40,000 Hulu subscribers in New Jersey will have to navigate a full standalone app phaseout and integration with Disney+ streaming service in the months to come.
Here’s what Hulu members and potential subscribers need to know.
What happened to Hulu?
The Walt Disney Company confirmed in a news release that it was adding Hulu’s content to Disney+.
Published reports indicate this integration is part of Disney’s larger plan to phase out Hulu’s solo app entirely by the end of next year.
“Expect the Hulu solo app to be shut down and absorbed onto Disney+ in 2026,” read TV insider’s account. “Hulu was added to Disney+ in 2024 but has still existed as a standalone service since. Disney+ has offered Disney+ and Hulu bundles to incentivize subscribers to use Hulu on the Disney+ app.
“Disney completed its acquisition of Hulu in June 2025 and now owns the service in full. It previously owned a majority stake, the remaining owned by Comcast.”

Will Disney+ stream all of Hulu’s original content?
It doesn’t appear this integration will cause any changes to Hulu’s lineup of series and other original content movies and specials.
Instead, Disney plans on incorporating additional content, and eventually building out a new mobile app focus.
Can I still sign up for Hulu?
Variety confirmed Hulu subscriptions will still be available through the unified Disney+ app, but the standalone Hulu app will be dissolved.
In the meantime, you can pick between two Hulu subscription models.
