Europa League clash postponed after being re-arranged twice in one day as Storm Benjamin wreaks chaos

THE EUROPA LEAGUE clash between Feyenoord and Panathinaikos has been postponed due to Storm Benjamin wreaking havoc in the Netherlands.

The two sides were initially scheduled to face off today at 5.45 BST but severe weather conditions in Rotterdam forced Uefa officials to change plans TWICE in one day.

Following deliberations, the Europa League game was rearranged for 3.30pm BST.

But local authorities then ordered Feyenoord to move the game again and postponed the kick-off time to 8pm BST.

The decision was made after a recent weather forecast predicted the Netherlands would enter a state of amber alert at 4pm BST.

Rotterdam officials urged the public to take extra care if they are planning to visit De Kuip tonight.

Feyenoord posted on X: “Feyenoord – Panathinaikos has been moved to 21:00 [local time].

“The start time of the match has been postponed at the request of the municipality and based on the changed weather forecasts.”

And the club added that those who choose not to attend will be able to obtain refunds.

Offering clarity to matchgoers after 12 hours of uncertainty, Feyenoord posted: “The municipality is pressing everyone to make the consideration of or not to travel to De Kuip.

“Please take into account the current weather forecasts. If supporters with a ticket are unable to attend the game due to changing circumstances, they can get their money back.

“More information will follow as soon as possible via the official channels.”

Feyenoord have lost both of their opening Europa League matches this season.

The Dutch giants lost 1-0 at Braga and 2-0 to Aston Villa at De Kuip three weeks ago.

Panathinaikos, on the other hand, won 4-1 at Young Boys but lost 2-1 to Go Ahead Eagles in Athens.

The match comes after the Greek giants appointed former Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.

Benitez won’t be in charge against Feyenoord and will instead assume duties on Sunday for the home match against Chris Coleman’s Asteras Tripolis.

Panathinaikos interim manager Christos Kontis will oversee the Europa League clash against Feyenoord.
