Shakhtar to play their 300th match in European competitions

On October 23, Shakhtar will host Legia in the UEFA Conference League league phase round 2. The encounter will take place at the Stadion Miejski im. Henryka Reymana in Kraków (Poland), with kickoff scheduled for 18:45 local time (19:45 Kyiv time).

This game will be Shakhtar’s 300th in all official European tournaments. Tickets for the milestone game of the Miners are still on sale.

Shakhtar played their first European match on September 15, 1976, when the team led by coach Volodymyr Salkov defeated Dynamo Berlin in the UEFA Cup Round of 64 in Donetsk (3-0). The Miners’ first-ever goal in international competitions was scored by Volodymyr Rohovskyi. In the 2000/01 season, Shakhtar, under head coach Viktor Prokopenko, made their debut in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Overall, the Orange-and-Blacks have taken part in the main round of Europe’s most prestigious club competition 19 times. In 2009, the Pitmen claimed the only European trophy in the history of Ukrainian football since independence – the UEFA Cup.

Across 299 European matches, Shakhtar have recorded 129 wins, 64 draws and 106 defeats, total goal difference of 453-429. The Miners have played 166 matches in the Champions League, 107 in the UEFA Cup / Europa League, 18 in the Cup Winners’ Cup, 4 in the Intertoto Cup, 3 in the UEFA Conference League and 1 in the UEFA Super Cup. Shakhtar’s all-time top scorer in European competitions is Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano (32 goals).
