How did a Yonkers shop sell 3 $1M Powerball tickets for the same drawing?

YONKERS, New York (WABC) — A gas station in Yonkers somehow sold three second-prize winning Powerball tickets worth $1 million each.

The New York Lottery said the tickets were sold for the Oct. 20 Powerball drawing at V&C Taneja Inc. on Nepperhan Avenue.

Customers streamed into the store on Wednesday after word got out about the apparently lucky gas station.

They were buying tickets and wondering who bought winning tickets.

“We had a lot of customers today and a lot of regular customers playing extra today because today is the Powerball drawing. They are trying their luck today,” manager Shahid Shah said.

Whoever it was matched all five of the white balls – 32, 38, 66, 67, 69, but did not match the red Powerball, just missing out on the massive jackpot.

Since no one won the jackpot, it climbed to an estimated $305 million for Wednesday night’s drawing.
