Apple TV Is Bringing Back One of the Streamer’s Best Thrillers Very Soon

Idris Elba finds himself trapped in the danger zone once again in the first footage from Hijack Season 2, which sees the MCU and DCU star return as business negotiator Sam Nelson. His skills will once again be put to the test after he boards a train and quickly finds himself a hostage once again alongside his fellow commuters. So, much like the iconic action hero John McClane, Nelson will no doubt be asking himself, “How can the same sh*t happen to the same guy twice?” You can check out the new trailer, as well as plot details and a confirmed release date, below.
Created by George Kay (Lupin, Criminal) and Jim Field Smith (Criminal, Litvinenko), the eight-episode second season will premiere on Apple TV globally on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with the first two episodes, followed by one episode weekly until February 25, 2026. Alongside the trailer, you can also check out the newly revealed synopsis…
“In the thrilling second season of “Hijack,” a Berlin underground train and its commuters are taken hostage, while authorities scramble to save hundreds of lives. Sam Nelson (Elba) is at the heart of the crisis on board, where one wrong decision could spell disaster.”
Hijack Season 2 reunites its ensemble cast of stars including Elba, who was honored with an Emmy Award nomination for his season one performance, Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Archie Panjabi, and welcomes Christian Näthe (Ballon, Soloalbum, Schule), Clare-Hope Ashitey (Seven Seconds, Top Boy, Doctor Foster), Lisa Vicari (Django, Dark), Toby Jones (Mr Bates vs The Post Office, Detectorists, Empire of Light), Karima McAdams (Dune: Prophecy, Deep State, Soulmates) and Christiane Paul (Counterpart, FBI: International, Parlement).
‘Hijack’ Has Been a Huge Hit for Apple TV
Told in real time, Hijack was released on Apple TV in 2023, and has since become one of the streamer’s biggest hits. Receiving acclaim from critics, the first season of Hijack quickly achieved a “Certified Fresh” score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes and landed itself on the Nielsen Streaming Originals Top 10 list.
Starring Archie Panjabi, Christine Adams, Max Beesley, Eve Myles, Neil Maskell, Jasper Britton, Harry Michell, Aimee Kelly, Mohamed Elsandel and Ben Miles alongside Elba, Hijack Season 1 introduces audiences to Sam Nelson, an accomplished negotiator in the business world who finds himself as the only hope when the plane he’s a passenger on is hijacked. While authorities on the ground scramble for answers, Sam must step up to save lives and bring the intense situation to a soft landing.
At the time, MovieWeb’s own Julian Roman heaped praise on the “real-time delivery” of the show, as well as the central performance from Idris Elba, saying, “Hijack is a summer nail-biter that respects the audience’s intelligence. The real-time delivery is used to great effect. Sam has seven hours to prevent a disaster. Elba’s in top form as a man living by wits and nerve to see his beloved family again.”
Once again, Hijack Season 2 is now due to hit Apple TV on January 14, and no doubt audiences can’t wait for another white-knuckle ride with Idris Elba.
