Irish retailer Dunnes Stores is preparing to shut down three of its grocery shops by the end of this month. The first closure will occur this Friday (October 24), with the Cornelscourt Village branch in south Dublin closing its doors for good.

This small grocery outlet is situated just a stone’s throw away from the larger Dunnes supermarket in Cornelscourt Shopping Centre. Two additional Dunnes Stores outlets are scheduled to close on Friday, October 31, reports the Irish Mirror.

This includes the shop on West Street in Drogheda, Co Louth, which has been operating for over half a century and is one of the retailer’s earliest branches. Last week, management informed the staff at the Drogheda branch about the impending closure, with most employees expected to be reassigned to nearby stores at Scotch Hall and Colpe Cross shopping centres in the town.

One of the two Dunnes Stores located in the Ilac Centre (48-50 Henry St) in Dublin city centre is also due to close on Friday, October 31. This news follows Dunnes Stores’ recent announcement that it had withdrawn a popular children’s product from sale due to safety concerns.

An urgent recall has been issued for its 2 Pack Baby Boys and Girls Mittens after discovering they could pose a risk of injury. Safety officials have cautioned that long threads from the mittens could wrap around a baby’s finger, potentially causing swelling or loss of movement.

The €2 mittens, sold both in-store and online, with approximately 4,100 pairs bought across Ireland, are now being recalled. Customers who have purchased the affected items are being strongly advised to cease using them immediately and ensure they are kept out of children’s reach.

For a full refund, customers can return the mittens to any Dunnes Stores branch.
