Cadamarteri in: Sheffield Wednesday team news and predicted XI to face Oxford United

Sheffield Wednesday have kept battling away on the pitch despite all the noise off it.

Anchored down by embargoes, late wage payments and winding-up order threats, Henrirk Pedersen and his side have huffed and puffed. But ultimately, SWFC sit bottom of the Championship with just a single win to their name.

In their last game, Sheffield Wednesday played to an almost entirely empty Hillsborough as they lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough.

The Owls performed valiantly and almost took the game to a stalemate against a top side, but they came up short through an early Morgan Whittaker goal.

However, Sheffield Wednesday’s battling performances are yet to come good points wise. The Owls have lost their last three and haven’t won since their brilliant display away at Portsmouth last month.

They come up against a side in a similar position in the league table in Oxford United. Gary Rowett’s team lost out to 10-man in Wrexham midweek, with a Nathan Broadhead goal proving the difference.

The U’s sit 20th in the table as a result, three points better off than SWFC.

Sheffield Wednesday team news

Sheffield Wednesday are in a tough position as it is, and injuries are only making things tougher.

Pedersen remains without Ernie Weaver, Rio Shipston, Gui Siquera, Olaf Kobacki, Nathaniel Chalobah, Pierce Charles and Di’Shon Bernard through injuries. There’s a new blow to worry about too.

Speaking midweek, the Dane confirmed that emerging striker George Brown has become the latest player cast to the sidelines. He has injured his foot in unfortunate circumstances, twisting it when controlling a ball in training.

The 19-year-old is expected to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is still suspended following his red card at Charlton Athletic.

Predicted XI

(5-3-2)

Lumley; Fusire, Palmer, Iorfa, M. Lowe, Amass; Valery, Bannan, Ingelsson; J. Lowe, Cadamarteri

Emergency loan goalkeeper Joe Lumley remains in the Sheffield Wednesday goal this weekend, both due to his midweek display and EFL rulings. He was fantastic against Middlesbrough, despite the fact he was lucky to have not been sent off for a challenge on Tommy Conway.

Sean Fusire and Harry Amass will continue their roles at wing-back as Pedersen will continue with the same back five. Ever-present skipper Barry Bannan will also start alongside Yan Valery and Svante Ingelsson.

The Dane could change his forward partnership bringing in Bailey Cadamarteri in place of Ike Ugbo alongside Jamal Lowe.

The clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Oxford United kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday afternoon.
