SWFC protests: Thousands boycott Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday fans continued their protests against owner Dejphon Chansiri as thousands boycotted their Championship game against Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening.
Pictures from the match showed vast swathes of empty seats in the home sections at Hillsborough. Ahead of the game, the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust projected a message onto the side of the stadium urging the owner to sell up as soon as possible.
Supporters and journalists reported an eerie atmosphere at the match, punctuated by the noise from a sold-out away end.

“Last night was a powerful moment for our fanbase, and we want to thank every single supporter who played their part,” Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust said.
“We recognise the difficult decision many made, and the courage it took to stand together for the long-term good of Sheffield Wednesday. The empty seats inside Hillsborough were not a sign of absence, but of unity.”

It has been another troubled season on and off the pitch for Wednesday as staff wages have gone unpaid and another HMRC winding-up petition looms over the club.
Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust will be holding a fans’ forum at the start of next month, on Tuesday 4th November, for Wednesday fans to come together and discuss their next steps.
