Buckley Town boss Asa full of praise for players ahead of Llandudno test

Asa Hamilton’s side are undefeated in six Cymru North encounters heading into this evening’s big showdown at home to Llandudno.

Buckley have already dented the title aspirations of Newtown, in a superb 3-0 outcome, and Hamilton will look for another positive result against third-placed Llandudno, who remain undefeated.

Hamilton said: “We have found our feet. We’ve had a proper chat with ourselves and decided which way to go.

“The lads have been amazing. They have upped their work rate, running and training, and it has shown.

“We have been playing really well, the Newtown game especially. I think that’s the best we’ve played.”

It would be so simple to just concentrate on the here and now, but that’s not the route Airbus boss Mark Allen is taking.

His Wingmakers’ side are sitting pretty at the top of the table ahead of this evening’s match-up at home to Rhyl 1879.

While the senior players have been doing the business so far for Airbus, Allen is determined that talented performers from the club’s Academy system continue to get the opportunity to step-up.

He told the club’s YouTube channel: “You know, I know I’ve spoke about it a lot and probably won’t stop, but the amount of Academy players that are coming through and making sure that they get opportunities when they can, and hopefully they learn from it.

“Even if it’s five, 10 minutes and being around the more experienced lads. That they get that experience with regards to seeing what it’s like, seeing what the expectations are and, you know, when they’re called upon, they’ve done well.

“So, they look at the likes of George (Peers), Oli (Lanceley), Josh (Stevenson), Tyler (McManus), Kaiden (Cooke) of course. So, you know, that’s who they’re looking up to.”

Spectators looking for goals are well advised to take a look at Gresford Athletic.

Goals at both ends of the pitch have been a big feature this season for Eddie-Maurice-Jones’ side, who go to Brickfield Rangers in a Wrexham derby tomorrow.

Athletic’s Achilles heel is defensively, with a mammoth 37 goals shipped in their nine matches – an average of over four goals per game.

This is the worst defensive record in the league, although Gresford do have threats at the other end of the pitch, demonstrated by their tally of 14 league goals and last week’s 9-0 Welsh Cup beating of Llanrug United.

While Brickfield have done well defensively since they gained promotion last season, it’s a slightly different case up top and their return of eight goals scored in the lowest in the league.

Maurice-Jones said: “I keep saying to the club, sometimes when everything goes against you, something’s going to give and something’s going to change.

“If you work hard, you will get rewarded. It will come.

“The one thing I have been saying is when we’ve conceded a lot of goals and had big defeats, against Airbus, Holywell and Llandudno, we have managed to score goals against them, which isn’t easy to do.

“We just need to be more secure at the back.”

Helping out with this aim would be the return of Adam Hesp, who is pushing for a place in the squad tomorrow.

However, definitely out is Mikey Davies, who has picked up an ankle ligaments injury.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s clash, Maurice-Jones added: “They don’t concede many and they have made Clywedog a bit of their own.

“The pitch is a bit tight and Gaz (Wilson) is a great manager. I think it will be a really difficult afternoon and we need to get a point on the board.”

Rangers boss Wilson said: “It should be a great game and we’re looking forward to it.

“We have a few injuries, including Tom Williams and Sam McCormick but Aiden Fox is back in squad.”

There’s a crucial contest in store towards the foot of the standings.

Flint Mountain, with four points from their last four matches, have been able to pull themselves clear of last place over recent weeks.

Another three-point haul wouldn’t go amiss tomorrow as Mountain head to Penrhyncoch, who sit at the foot of the standings. The mid-Walians are still seeking a first win of the season, while Flint Mountain have triumphed once in their 10 matches.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Holyhead – also trying to grab a first win – have a tough trip to fourth-placed Newtown. There’s a mid-Wales encounter between Caersws and Guilsfield, while Denbigh host Ruthin this evening in a derby.
