Adam Brody started dating Gossip Girl actress Leighton Meester in 2013, after producer Josh Schwartz, who worked on both The O.C. and Gossip Girl, introduced them to each other. They later starred in a movie together and that was when sparks flew.
“The first time we met, that whole cast was eating at Canter’s [in Los Angeles], and I lived at Canter’s for, like, my entire 20s,” Brody told Anna Farris on her Unqualified podcast. “I was leaving, and he introduced all of us and then [I] bumped into her, like, two or three times over the next couple of years.”
“Then we did this movie together, The Oranges. I was seeing someone at the time,” he continued. “So we met kind of through mutual work friends off and on. We didn’t get together until about a year after that movie, when I was single.”
Things moved quickly between the actors, and they married in a private ceremony in 2014. Leighton gave birth to their first child, Arlo Day, in 2015 and to a baby boy in 2020.
The couple tends to keep their relationship really private. “She’s more inherently private than I am,” Adam explained to GQ in 2019. “I don’t seek publicity, but if I’m sitting next to you on the subway, I’ll tell you everything about me. We’re homebodies. We don’t go to a lot of things that perhaps we could and don’t seek out promotion in that way. I’m not s——- on anyone who monetizes that aspect of their life because I get it. But we’ve found this great balance so far that really works for us. We’re also not very active on social media.”
The two starred in their third project together in Nobody Wants This where she plays a new character named Abby. Leighton also reunited with the actual voice of Gossip Girl, Kristen Bell, who plays her husband’s love interest in the show. The Frozen actress recalled her reaction to the casting to E! News, “When this character was written as a frenemy, someone that Joanne hated and admired, someone who she would be threatened by, we were like, ‘Do you think Leighton would do it?’ and when she said yes, we were so giddy. She’s so funny in the show. She’s quite an adept improver.”
