Fact Check: Is Zendaya Refusing to Work With Sydney Sweeney?

According to the latest rumor, Zendaya is refusing to work with her Euphoria co-star, Sydney Sweeney. The rumors are related to the show’s upcoming season and its promotions.
As reported by self-proclaimed “pop culture investigator” Sloan Hooks, Zendaya doesn’t want her A-lister status harmed by the controversies that seem to be surrounding Sweeney.
Hooks stated, “Zendaya has always been a star, but since the last season of ‘Euphoria’, she has bumped up to an A-lister, and I don’t think she wants Sydney Sweeney’s drama dragging her down.”
Continuing his report, Hooks added that while Sweeney has no hard feelings for anyone and probably will be down to do press with everyone, the Dune actress doesn’t want her name to be associated with her, thanks to the controversial brand deals.
As for how much truth there is to this report, we don’t know. The unconfirmed rumor has stemmed from unverified sources, and no official remarks have been made by either of the two actresses or HBO. It may or may not be true, but it would be wiser not to believe everything we see on the Internet.

The Controversies Surrounding Sydney Sweeney

Lately, Sweeney has been going viral for all the wrong reasons. First, she was accused of throwing a MAGA-themed party for her mother in 2022. She faced a ton of criticism after she posted a dump from the day on her Instagram, and eagle-eyed netizens were able to spot people in “Blue Lives Matter” shirts and MAGA-style hats in the background.
In the photos posted by her brother, Trent, you can clearly see ‘Make Sixty Great Again’ on the red hats, similar to Donald Trump’s slogan.
Later, Sweeney defended herself on X, calling it an “innocent celebration” for her mother, which was turned into an “absurd political statement.“
You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my moms milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone ♥️ and Happy Birthday Mom!

She also told Variety how there have been “so many misinterpretations” about the party, adding, “the people in the pictures weren’t even my family.“
Earlier this year, Sweeney got a ton of backlash for her collaboration with Dr. Squatch, where they created Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss, a soap that had the actress’ used bath water infused into it.
Then, obviously, there’s the American Eagle controversy, where Sweeney was criticized for pushing superiority through the “jeans/genes” pun, which came across as her promoting eugenics.
She recently addressed the backlash in an interview with GQ, stating, “The reaction definitely was a surprise, but I love jeans. All I wear are jeans. I’m literally in jeans and a T-shirt every day of my life…I knew at the end of the day what that ad was for, and it was great jeans.“
As for the hate, she stated that she didn’t see “a lot of it” as she was spending hours filming and didn’t get much time to pick up her phone and scroll through social media.
Professional decisions aside, Sweeney’s love life has also been catching flak lately since she is dating the problematic figure, Scooter Braun. The two have been spotted together frequently since meeting at Jeff Bezos’ wedding, and TMZ has confirmed that they are, in fact, in a relationship.
What to Expect From Zendaya’s Euphoria Season 3
Euphoria season three began filming in February and is expected to be released in 2026 (via TeenVogue). While there isn’t much known about the season’s plot, it has been confirmed that there will be a time jump, bringing the characters out of high school.
Talking to THR about the time jump, Zendaya stated, “I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school. I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look”.
The main cast is confirmed to return for season 3, including Zendaya, Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and more. Musician Rosalía, Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch, and Kadeem Hardison are also joining the cast in mystery roles.
Other newcomers include Darrell Britt-Gibson, Priscilla Delgado, James Landry Hébert, and Anna Van Patten. As per Deadline, Sharon Stone and more will also make an appearance.
The season will consist of a total of eight episodes, and it seems like there is a possibility that season 3 will be the end. HBO Head of Drama Francesca Orsi stated (via Deadline), “I don’t think anything is over until it’s over, but it’s been discussed that this is the end.” She added that fans will be “very satisfied” at the end.
